Dragovski Kamik Peak and the Yablanitsa Gorge NEW

🏔️ The Greben mountains lie on the border between Bulgaria and Serbia, east of the Ruy range, between the Zavalska mountains in Bulgaria and the Vlaska mountains in the Western Outlands. The river Erma, running between Greben and Vlaska, has carved the beautiful Poganovo gorge in the Western Outlands. After the border was drawn in 1920 under the Treaty of Neuilly, only a small part of the mountain's south-eastern slope remained on Bulgarian territory.

🏔️ Its highest summit, Dziglina Livada (1,337 m), stands on Serbian territory. On the Bulgarian side the peak is Dragovski Kamik (1,118 m), between the villages of Vrabcha and Filipovtsi near Trun. Its northern face has the shape of a tall pyramid, which is why it is called „the Matterhorn of Trun“.

The ascent is easy, ideal for an undemanding day out on a colourful autumn day.

🕰️ We leave at 8:00 from the Vasil Levski Stadium in Sofia.

🧭 We set off from Dragovska Mahala along a winding path past the Dragovsko spring and the Bezhanska cave. From there a steady, slightly steeper climb leads up to Dragovski Kamik. After taking our time over photographs and the panorama from the summit, we descend by a path that drops towards the Brashlyan locality.

After the peak we head for the Yablanitsa gorge.

The path is easy and pleasant to walk - it leads through forest and descends gently to the river. There walkers cross an old but solid wooden bridge and reach the start of the gorge of the river Yablanitsa. From this point striking natural scenery begins to open up: high, narrow rock walls, pools and a small cave. After about half an hour's walking you reach the best-known feature of the eco-trail, the „Zeleni Vir“ waterfall. It is low but very powerful, ringed by high rock, with a pool beneath it and a strong rapid further down. There is a small bridge above the waterfall, and beyond it the narrowest part of the gorge begins.

The path is exceptionally pleasant and has passages with a mildly adventurous character. We will also pass the most emblematic spot of all, „Zeleni Vir“ - an extraordinarily full and powerful waterfall that no one passes by lightly. We will allow plenty of time for photographs.

Once we have finished this part of the trek as well, it is time to return to Sofia.
