The Rila Skakavitsa Waterfall and Tashmandra Peak

The transfer to the Zeleni Preslap locality takes about 2:00 hours.
Our adventure begins at the Zeleni Preslap locality, from where we head up through dense Rila forest steeped in clean mountain air. Right at the start the route tests us with a steep climb, but the silence around us makes the effort almost imperceptible. Gradually the trees fall behind and, without much warning, we come out above the tree line - the moment when the horizon widens sharply and the views begin to follow one after another.
After a short walk we reach the summit. Here we give ourselves a well-earned rest - time for hot tea, something sweet and that particular sense of satisfaction the mountain always serves up at the end. It is a small but genuine celebration, shared in the silence of Rila.
From the summit we descend to the first hut ever built in Bulgaria - the Skakavitsa hut, at 1,876 m above sea level. On arrival we take a short break before heading for the waterfall itself. The path there becomes narrower and brings us out into the open, and right at the end there is a short stony section. Time is allowed for photographs and for cooling off under the spray of the highest waterfall in Rila. We then return to the hut and descend to the transport.

Headlamp - An absolute must-have accessory for every mountaineer. It may be necessary for the group to start a trek very early or finish the trek in the dark (force majeure). In these situations, each participant must have a headlamp. We recommend going with a proven brand like Petzl or BlackDiamond
