If you want to get away from the city, feel the quiet of the natural world and top yourself up with good energy, this programme is exactly for you.
The area around the Polska Skakavitsa waterfall is one of the most beautiful places in Bulgaria. Here you genuinely feel time has stopped. The waterfall is around 53 metres high, which makes it the third highest in Bulgaria. It is probably the only waterfall in the country that is not being worn lower by erosion but is imperceptibly growing, thanks to the lime content of its water. It is also a small paradise for some 600 species of butterfly.
And on the karst edge of the waterfall itself stands the church of St Dimitar, with a great deal of history behind its walls.

Tour Itinerary
For those of you travelling under your own steam, we will send the exact location once you have signed up.
Once the group is together, the mountain guide gives a short briefing and runs through the safety points. We sort our packs and set off to explore the area.
We walk a reasonably easy path upstream along the river. Our first stop is the medieval church of the Dormition of the Mother of God. Then we carry on to our main goal for the day. The path beside the waterfall runs on two levels, so you can photograph it from anywhere, but it is at its finest behind the curtain of spray falling from more than 50 m. Once we have cooled off in the spray by the falls, we continue to the viewing platform in the hamlet above us.
There is no question of missing the church of St Dimitar.
And if you think the surprises end there, you are wrong. It is time for fresh trout at the local guest house, at the village mayor's place.
If the group would like to, we also head for the canyon of the river Shegava, known for its curious rock formations.
The programme suits people with no mountain experience who simply enjoy walking outdoors. There are no technical sections and no big climbs.
