One of the easiest summer ascents in the Balkan range - Kom peak (2,016 m), the highest point of the Berkovitsa part of the range and the western end of the legendary Kom–Emine crossing. We set off from the (new) Kom hut, from where the ridge greets us without technical obstacles and the views open in every direction. On the summit the monument to Ivan Vazov awaits us, inspired from this very spot for one of his best-known poems.

Tour Itinerary
We set off in the morning from Sofia through the Petrohan pass towards Berkovitsa, and from there climb the asphalt road to the Kom hut. From the hut we take the well-marked path eastwards - for the first fifteen minutes we pass the old Kom hut, before the path tightens into the steepest section of the day: about 250 m of ascent within roughly a kilometre. Once out on the ridge we walk almost horizontally amid open panoramas towards the Vratsa mountains and the Sofia plain. The last climb brings us to the summit, where the Vazov monument and the 360° panorama are the reward for the day. We descend by the same way to the hut, with the option of something to eat there.
